About Jersey CrossFit

Jersey CrossFit Gym uses constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. We are a strength and conditioning program that combines the most effective methods of cardio, weightlifting and gymnastics. Its a fun, full of variety, adaptable workout regimen led by qualified and experienced coaches in a community like atmosphere. We are NOT a boot camp. Our training methods produce tangible results for all levels of fitness, from children to elite athletes and everyone in between.

At Jersey CrossFit Gym we train incredibly hard; harder than most thought they were capable of. Everyday our members break down barriers and set new standards for themselves. Our training is intense (relative to each individual) and it creates a bond among our members that can’t be manufactured. Together we sweat, we expose weaknesses and we get stronger. The community aspect of Jersey CrossFit Gym is our greatest strength. Here there are no egos, and no room for bad attitudes. Those type of people just don’t fit here. We are fun and supportive, we are competitive, we are strong, we are humble, we are athletes…we are Jersey CrossFit Gym.

Founder, Owner & Head Coach

Joe Murphy is a strength and conditioning coach and co-owner of Jersey CrossFit and HIIT Fitness Jersey Ltd.
Head coach and programmer, Joe Murphy was an athlete in his own right, representing England at amateur level and playing for various professional football clubs in England.

My Profile:

I have had a passion for health, fitness and sport ever since I was a teen and heavily participated in it all my life. I train hard, eat well and enjoy living a healthy life and looking after my body. Throughout my years I have learnt and adopted many training systems that has helped me as a personal trainer in terms of individualizing programs to client’s needs, motivating people and helping them achieve certain goals. I am always looking to further my education and will continue to gain more qualifications to help others get fit and live a fulfilling life.

My Training Methods

I believe in training that is functional to everyday life patterns. I make sure to teach the most modern up-to-date training methods, focusing on balanced training programs that help individuals live a more fulfilled and athletic life. My sessions are done using whole-body movements, barbells, cables, kettlebells, free weights, ring suspenders, climbing ropes, as well as lots of other equipment that enhances functional stability. This system works because it, not only uses more muscle groups to adapt from such stimulus, but helps better condition the body from the stresses the environment can bring. I specialise in fat loss, muscle gain, sports conditioning (particularly football), CrossFit and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) methods.

My Training Background

Throughout my youth I played for top clubs in Jersey, gaining a place in Jersey’s School of Excellence for a number of years. I progressed from there to feature for Jersey Under 16’s, Under 18’s and Under 21’s. I moved to England at the age of 22 and had trials at Salisbury Town FC and Southport FC. While I was there I was spotted by semi-professional side Marine FC, and signed for their first-team squad, playing against teams such as Tranmere Rovers FC, Macclesfield Town FC and Altringham FC. However, a serious ankle injury kept me out of football for over a year and a half. Once properly rehabilitated, I was aged 24, and playing lower league football for Formby FC, whilst also improving my education and doing sports coaching for children in Liverpool. At 25, I decided to join Inter Football Academy. After scoring a hat-trick v Accrington Stanley FC reserves they took me on for trials v Macclesfield Town FC and Burnley FC. Due to family logistics, I instead returned home and played for the island of Jersey, representing them in the 2011 Island Games, and coming away with a bronze medal. After this successful 2010/11 season on the island, I was also nominated for Jersey Footballer of the Year, also representing Jersey in the Muratti. After completing the season in 2011/12, I helped Jersey win the FA Inter-League Cup for the first time in their history. We represented England in the UEFA Regions Cup for the upcoming season, the highest possible achievement Jersey football has ever seen. In 2013 I was nominated again for Jersey Footballer of the Year after winning 5 trophies with champions of the Channel Islands Jersey Scottish, including the league title and the Upton Trophy. With no new routes for progression for me in football in Jersey, I then needed a new challenge and so turned to the sport of CrossFit. Since 2015 I have been developing my skills, learning the sport, and gradually improving on my weaknesses. I now compete in various CrossFit competitions throughout the year. These keep me motivated to train hard and keep nutrition on point. I am always trying to help develop the sport of CrossFit on the island for any athletes that are interested in getting involved.

GRANT HOGAN

Grant Hogan is a strength and conditioning coach and co-owner of Jersey CrossFit and HIIT Fitness Jersey Ltd.
Grant Hogan is also a head coach and is a triathlon specialist, performing in many extreme events, such as Ironman.

My Profile:

Grant’s eventual role as a fitness coach started life as a love for fitness and his ambition to be a teacher. Put them both together and that is when Grant found what he was meant to do in life.

Grant’s background was mainly running, cycling and swimming which would take him on to do Triathlons and eventual Ironman. He found strength training a little later in life however he wish he had found it earlier because he never realized how much it would have helped him in all aspects of his training. When Grant talks of strength training, he means compound, highly functional movements like squats, deadlifts, pull ups, cleans, snatch etc. Exactly how he now likes to train his clients. This coupled with high intensity interval training (HIIT) and new age mobility exercises should have the body functioning exactly how it was designed to.

Grant’s fitness knowledge comes from years of experience and continued development. His most notable achievements are Level 4 personal trainer with a specialization in the management of lower back pain, BritishWeightlifting Coach, CrossFit Coach, Advanced Kettlebell Instructor

PAULA VOLANTE

CrossFit & Teens Coach

Paula has always been focused on strength and conditioning training but her real passion was fuelled when she joined CrossFit in 2013 and quickly realised that she had found a sport that would provide the variety she had longed, which pushed her to train harder than ever before, learn new skills and improve her strength and endurance.


Paula has always been focused on strength and conditioning training but her real passion was fuelled when she joined CrossFit in 2013 and quickly realised that she had found a sport that would provide the variety she had longed, which pushed her to train harder than ever before, learn new skills and improve her strength and endurance to no end all with the support of a great group of people who pushed each other as hard as was required to achieve their individual goals. Paula’s passion for coaching CrossFit, is based on the combination of Olympic Weight Lifting, Gymnastics, Calisthenics and Endurance, which when combined improves all of the physical skills of Power, Endurance, Strength, Stamina, Flexibility, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy which Paula has strived to see in all of her clients after experiencing it first hand when she started training CrossFit.

She believes that everyone will significantly benefit from CrossFit, whether a professional athlete, a surfer, a golfer, a boxer, someone who wants to find their sport or you’re everyday person who wants to be healthier, fitter and feel happier in themselves. The functional strength training methods used in CrossFit will transfer into any sport or area of life and more importantly will ensure you have great movement mechanics, which intern significantly reduces the risk of injury in any other sport. Paula’s a firm promoter of CrossFit due its scaling ability which allows any person of any ability and any age to train CrossFit, to see results and to generally be a better human.

Paula is a firm believer that you get out what you put in to training and life so works her clients and the classes as hard as necessary in order to ensure they each achieve their individual goals, whatever they may be, through teaching, coaching or motivation.

DAN GARRIDO

CrossFit & Endurance Coach

Dan Garrido is a Level 3 personal trainer, ViPR accredited trainer and an Olympic Weightlifting Instructor, and has also experience in kettlebell training and TRX suspension training. Dan is also heavily experienced in endurance training and runs our CrossFit Endurance program.

Dan is a keen Thai boxer and a member of Pisces Thai Boxing gym, as well as being a member of Jersey Spartans Athletic Club, and has participated at a competitive level in long distance running from 5K to half marathon. Dan is an accredited UK Athletics assistant coach, and an indoor group cycling instructor and takes regular spin classes at various local gyms. Dan is a vegan, and happily promotes a vegan lifestyle and a plant based diet, and is keen to disprove the myth that vegans are weedy!

JOE PARKINSON

CrossFit Coach

A Masters Graduate in Sports Science For Optimal Performance, a qualified Personal Trainer and Crossfit Level 1 Coach. Joe does what he does so he can educate, influence and inspire those around him.

My goal at is to educate, empower and inspire you to achieve your health, exercise and performance goals. With my extensive knowledge of the human body and performance, I am not only able to deliver you the results you desire, be it for Crossfit, fat loss, muscle gain or improved sporting performance; I will provide the knowledge you need for you to take control of your training and help you to arrive at a stage where you are knowledgeable enough to be your own motivator and achieve your fitness goals and beyond.

There is no quick fix. With my help, you will gain the tools and understanding necessary to achieve and sustain your fitness or performance goals. How much easier is it to do something when you understand what you are doing and why you are doing it?

I have worked with and designed training programmes for professional rugby players and commonwealth and amateur athletes, in a range of sports including, rugby, football, swimming, cycling and triathlon. To enhance sporting performance, rehabilitate, and reduce injury rates.

I have also worked with people to change their body composition, add muscle mass, reduce fat and increase fitness levels.

Whether it is sporting performance or general health and wellbeing, I have a wealth of experience and knowledge to ensure that you achieve your goals and guarantee that an investment in yourself will be worthwhile.
